PUTERI MANDI - (Pandan Coconut Buttons with Palm Sugar Syrup)

Dough Ingredients:

1.      1 ½  cups of glutinous rice flour

2.      Colouring (depends)

4.       Some water

 

Gravy Ingredients

1.       ¼ cup of sugar

2.       1 piece of palm sugar

3.       ½ cup of water

4.       2 pandan leaves

5.       1 cup grated coconut

6.       pinch of salt

 

Method:

1.       Combine glutinous rice flour and pandan water. Knead to form a dough.

2.       Make a marble-sized ball and press slightly at the centre.

3.       Put dough into boiling water and cook for 4 mins until the dough floats.

4.       Then, remove from the pot and put into the cold water.

5.       In another pot, boil water, sugar, palm sugar, pandan leaves and salt until it all melts and blend well. Add grated coconut and dough. Let simmer for 3 mins.

What is Puteri Mandi?

Puteri Mandi literally means Bathing Princess in English. It’s originated in the east of Malaysia which is Terengganu and Kelantan. Putri Mandi is actually  Pandan Coconut Buttons with Palm Sugar Syrup. Why Puteri Mandi? Because it shows that the process of this product been made. Its seems like a princess who taking bath in a hot water with beautiful flowers around which means how the glutinous rice flour simmered with the syrup and some grated coconut in it. While a person who cooked it, steering it and watch it with a happy and sweetly smile, because the syrup makes the Puteri  Mandi sweets and lovely.

So the Cerita Dongeng of this Kuih is:

Dalam sebuah laman web, aku curi-curi membaca kisah yang mungkin direka pasal Puteri Mandi ni. Ia bermula begini....Seorang pemuda telah jatuh cinta pada seorang puteri yang sungguh indah paras rupanya. Mereka bahagia, namun setelah beberapa bulan mereka bercinta, puteri tersebut telah menjauhkan diri daripada si pemuda. Si pemuda merasa sedih. Lalu untuk menghilangkan rasa rindunya pada si puteri, beliau telah pergi mengintai puteri yang sedang bermandi- manda dalam sungai bersama dengan teman-teman puterinya.  Semua puteri-puteri itu sungguh cantik jelita paras rupawan mereka. Mereka mandi tanpa menghiraukan si pemuda yang sedang mengintai. Si pemuda pula tersenyum penuh kemanisan!

 

Heh! Macam-macam...Tapi walau apa pun kisah di sebalik kejadian kuih Puteri Mandi ini, memang tidak dinafikan kuih ini memang enak dimakan.
